RetestLog

Which of your customers’ extinguishers are due this month?

RetestLog lists every extinguisher you service by the date it is due next, by customer, soonest first. Book the work from that list, record each unit on site, and the customer gets the service report by email in your shop’s name.

Screenshot of the Units list in RetestLog filtered to units overdue or due within 30 days: serial number, customer, next due date and a Due soon tag, soonest first, with a Record the test and Create work order link on each row. Demo data.

Every unit, every date, one customer file

Each extinguisher keeps its own dates: the next monthly inspection, the next annual maintenance, and the next six-year maintenance for stored-pressure dry chemical units. You enter them when you add the unit. After that, each service that passes moves its date on.

The due list shows the units coming due in the window you pick, and the ones already overdue. Read it on screen, or download it as a spreadsheet file (CSV, comma-separated values).

What the rules ask, and what RetestLog does

What the rules askWhat RetestLog does
A visual inspection every month (29 CFR 1910.157(e)(2))A monthly inspection checklist per unit, with a gauge check, and the next monthly date kept
An annual maintenance check, with its date recorded (29 CFR 1910.157(e)(3))An annual maintenance checklist that saves only when every item is answered
Six-year maintenance for stored-pressure dry chemical units on a 12-year test cycle, other than disposable ones (29 CFR 1910.157(e)(4))A six-year maintenance record, and the six-year due date on each unit it applies to
The technician’s license number and signature on the service tag, in states that license technicians (for example California, 19 CCR 596.5, and Texas, 28 TAC 34.520)The number comes from the technician’s profile onto every service record they save, and never changes after. The record notes that the technician signed the tag by hand
The parts replaced on each unit, by serial number, on the service invoice (Florida, FAC 69A-21.251)The parts replaced on each unit’s record
The owner told in writing, and the fire official notified, when a unit is red-tagged (Texas, 28 TAC 34.521)The red tag and what is impaired, and when and how you told the owner and the fire official

Each state adopts its own edition of NFPA 10 (the National Fire Protection Association standard for portable extinguishers), and its own licensing rules. Check the schedule against the rules where you work.

From the due list to the service report

  1. Book it. Make a work order for the customer, pick the technician and the time. RetestLog warns you when that technician is already booked.
  2. Record it. On site, open the work order in the browser on a phone or tablet and record each unit against its checklist. Add a note and a photo to anything that fails.
  3. Fix it. Turn a failed item into a repair, on the same visit or a return trip.
  4. Report it. Complete the work order. The customer gets the service report as a PDF (Portable Document Format) by email, under your shop’s name and logo.
The sheet of ID labels RetestLog prints: ten labels to a page, each with the shop's name, the unit, its serial number and a QR code. Demo data.

An ID label with a QR code on every unit

Every extinguisher you add gets an ID label code. Print labels for one unit or a whole work order when you need them. Anyone who scans the code sees that unit’s service status and its latest service, with no account, unless you turn that off for the customer. The label sits beside the state service tag and never replaces it.

Keep your billing software

RetestLog does not send invoices. Keep the billing software you use now, and use RetestLog for the records, the dates and the schedule.

Questions from extinguisher companies

Which services does it record?

Monthly inspection, annual maintenance, six-year maintenance, recharge, and a new unit placed in service. Each has its own checklist or fields.

Can my techs use it on site?

Yes. RetestLog runs in the web browser on a phone, a tablet or a computer. It needs a connection while you use it.

Does it send my customers reminders?

Yes, by email, before their units come due. Each email goes out in your shop’s name with your contact details and an unsubscribe link. You can turn reminders off for one customer or for the whole shop.

What if I have two shops?

Add every location you have. The price covers the whole company, and each location keeps its own state license number and expiry date.
