How a service day runs in RetestLog
RetestLog follows your work in the order you do it: the customer and their units, the booking, the visit, the report. Here is each step.
30 days free. No credit card required. Pricing is from $49 a month. See the pricing.
Set up your shop
- Start your free trial. Use Start free trial. 30 days free, no credit card required. We set your shop up.
- Add your location. Enter your address and your state extinguisher service license with its expiry date. RetestLog warns you 60 days before it runs out.
- Add your people. Invite your technicians and your office staff. Each technician’s license or permit number goes on their profile once.
- Add your customers and their units. For each extinguisher: serial number, agent, manufacturer, year, size, where it hangs, and the date each service is due next.
The service day
-
Book the work. From the due list, make a work order for the customer. Pick the units, the technician and the time. If that technician is already booked then, RetestLog warns you, and you can book anyway.
-
Open the work order on site. The technician opens it in the web browser on a phone or tablet. Each unit is a task.
-
Record each unit. Pick the service: monthly inspection, annual maintenance, six-year maintenance, recharge, or a new unit placed in service. Answer each checklist item pass or fail. A failed item takes a deficiency note and photos. Where the service calls for them, note the parts replaced, whether a collar went on, and a red tag with what is impaired. The record does not save until every item is answered.
The rule: the checklist items follow NFPA 10, and each field shows its source. OSHA asks for a monthly visual inspection and an annual maintenance check with its date recorded (29 CFR 1910.157(e)(2) and (e)(3)).
-
Put the right license number on it. On every service but the monthly inspection, the technician’s license number comes from their profile. Once the record is saved, the number on it never changes, even if the profile changes later.
-
Turn failures into repairs. Add a failed item as a repair, on the same work order or on a return trip.
-
Complete the work order. The customer gets the service report by email, under your shop’s name and logo: every unit, its result, deficiencies with photos, repairs done and the next due dates. You can send it again later.
Between service days
Each morning. The Today page shows each technician their work for the day, and shows the office the units coming due.
When a customer calls. Find the unit by its serial number, or open the customer. Every service on that unit comes up, with its date and result.
At the start of each month. Open the due list: every unit coming due, by customer, soonest first. Download it as a spreadsheet file if you want it outside RetestLog.
Before each due date. RetestLog emails your customer a reminder in your shop’s name. You choose how far ahead, or turn it off.
When a record was wrong. Correct it. The correction saves as a new version with your reason, and the history keeps both.
When someone asks about a unit
Open the unit and show its history. Your customer can scan the unit’s ID label and see its service status for themselves.
